Tetraplegie durch Nitrofurantoin-Medikation

Zusammenfassung

Ein 54jähriger Mann erlitt eine inkomplette traumatische spastische Paraplegie mit Blasen- und Mastdarmstörungen. Eine typische chronischrezidivierende Pyelonephritis wurde 18 Monate lang mit insgesamt 160 g Nitrofurantoin (Furadantin^®) behandelt. Danach kam es zu einer subtotalen schlaffen Tetraplegie, die sich nach Absetzen des Präparates nur teilweise zurückbildete.

Summary

A 54-year-old man suffered an incomplete traumatic spastic paraplegia with bladder and rectal disturbances. A typical chronic recurrent pyelonephritis was treated for 18 months with a total of 160 g nitrofurantoin (Furadantin^®). Afterwards a subtotal flaccid tetraplegia occurred which only partially subsided after stopping the drug.
