Abstract

The exploration of 4-hydroxycoumarin for nucleophilic addition on to Baylis-Hillman acetate adducts has been described for the first time. The reactions of various Baylis-Hillman acetate adducts were examined with 4-hydroxycoumarins in the presence of base to produce the corresponding 3-substituted 4-hydroxycoumarins in good yields.
