Abstract

The diastereoselective pot, atom, and step economic (PASE) synthesis of highly functionalized piperidines is reported. The procedure simply involves mixing methyl acetoacetate, two equivalents of aldehyde and two equivalents of aniline together in the presence of indium(III) chloride. In most cases the piperidine precipitates out of solution.
