Methyl phosphorodichloridate (methyl dichlorophosphate) is slowly converted into pyrophosphoryl chloride in good yield in the presence of an excess of phosphoryl chloride: the anhydride forms excellent formylating reagents in combination with N,N-disubstituted formamides.
