Ketones and aldehydes undergo facile hydroperoxidation on treatment
with aqueous hydrogen peroxide (30%) in the presence of
10 mol% stannous chloride dihydrate in acetonitrile under
very mild conditions to afford the corresponding gem-dihydroperoxides
in satisfactory yields.
