The trifluoroacetate salt of aspartic acid ß-semialdehyde, an important intermediate in the biosynthesis of L-lysine, L-threonine, and L-methionine has been prepared in DL-, L-, and D-forms as stable solid hydrates 13 in 43% overall yield by ozonolysis of doubly protected allylglycine, followed by careful deprotection with trifluoroacetic acid.
