Novel Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Arsenic Betaines of Maleic Anhydride by a Three-Component Reaction Novel betaines derived from maleic anhydride were prepared by reaction of dichloromaleic anhydride with a cationogenic species such as pyridines, isoquinoline, quinoline, pyrazine, 1-methylimidazole, 4-methylmorpholine, triphenylphosphine, or triphenylarsine and water (Method A) or acetic anhydride (Method B).
