Significance

Cruentaren A is a cytotoxic secondary metabolite of the myxobacterium Byssovorax cruenta. It efficiently inhibits mitochondrial F-ATPase from baker’s yeast. The salient feature of the synthesis is a ring-closing alkyne metathesis reaction to create macrolactone C.
