Das Thema Gendervarianz, Transgender oder Transsexualität hat in der Öffentlichkeit und in den Medien in den letzten Jahren deutlich zugenommen. Trans steht als Kurzform für die vielen Optionen dieser Entwicklung. Die Forschungen zur Prävalenz sind für das Jugendalter allerdings noch dürftig, da sich Jugendliche bezüglich ihrer Identität ausprobieren und eine langfristige Konsequenz – auch für die psychologische und somatische Behandlung – unabsehbar ist.
