Die Relevanz des Typ-2-Diabetes ergibt sich u. a. aus der Erkrankungshäufigkeit in der Bevölkerung. Genaue Schätzungen und langfristige Beobachtungen (Surveillance) der Erkrankungshäufigkeit sind jedoch mit methodischen Tücken behaftet. Die Zielsetzung der aktuellen Übersicht ist die Zusammenfassung aktueller epidemiologischer Daten zur Häufigkeit und regionalen Verteilung des Typ-2-Diabetes in Deutschland.

The relevance of type 2 is due, among other factors, to the incidence of the disease in the general population. More exact estimations and long-term observations (surveillance) on the frequency of the disease are, however, accompanied by methodological deficits. The objective of the present review is to survey the current epidemiological data on the incidence and regional distribution of type 2 diabetes in Germany.
