This issue of Seminars in Reproductive Medicine discusses primary ovarian insufficiency, a very important topic for both clinicians and researchers. We were very fortunate to recruit Dr. Larry Nelson who has focused on this field of specialization for the past 2 decades as our guest editor.

After receiving his medical degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1973, Dr. Nelson completed a residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Southern California. He later spent several years in private practice in Lynchburg, Virginia, before returning to academia to complete a clinical research position at Hammersmith Hospital in London, a fellowship in reproductive endocrinology at George Washington University, and a research fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), after which he joined the staff at NIH.

Dr. Nelson specializes in women's health research and currently works as a physician and research scientist at the in Bethesda, Maryland. He leads a research effort on primary ovarian insufficiency. Dr. Nelson is a commissioned officer in the U.S. Public Health Service and serves as head of the Integrative Reproductive Medicine Group, Intramural Research Program on Reproductive and Adult Endocrinology, a program of NIH's National Institute of Child Health and Human Development.

Dr. Nelson is licensed to practice medicine in California and Virginia. He has received board certification from the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology for specialization in reproductive endocrinology. In addition to earning his M.D., Dr. Nelson holds an M.B.A. from George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia, where he concentrated his studies on human resource management and the management of nonprofit organizations.

Dr. Nelson has published extensively on the topic of ovarian insufficiency and is considered an expert in this area. He has recruited several excellent researchers and clinicians to bring the readers of Seminars up to date on this important topic.
