Abstract

During starvation a 2.7-fold increase in serotonin content of human blood platelets was found after a period of 14 days. Two weeks later the amine content of the cells was within the normal range. In male rats the serotonin content of the duodenum increased by approximately 40% after 66 and 88 hr of starvation.

The relations to enhanced protein metabolism in the starvation state are discussed.
