Actions of Human Chorionic Somatomammotropin (HCS) in Dog Subcutaneous Adipose Tissue In Situ

Abstract

The effect of human chorionic somatomammotropin (HCS 100-400 µg/ml) on blood flow and uptake or release of glucose, lactate, pyruvate, FFA, glycerol, acetoacetate, β-hydroxybutyrate and insulin was studied in isolated subcutaneous adipose tissue of fed female dogs. In adipose tissue to which the sympathetic nerve was sectioned HCS caused a slight increase in blood flow. HCS had no effect on glucose uptake in adipose tissue but caused an increased net extraction of insulin. HCS increased the glycerol release but not the FFA release from denervated unstimulated adipose tissue. HCS did not change the amount of glycerol released but increased the amount of FFA release during stimulation of the sectioned nerve's distal end.
