Giant HNF 1α-Inactivated Liver Adenoma in a Nine-Year-Old Boy with Abernethy Malformation Type II

Introduction

We usually associate hepatocellular adenoma with women of childbearing age. Hepatocellular adenoma in children affects primarily girls > 10 years with a history of oral contraception. In male pediatric patients, this tumor is a rarity. Hepatocellular adenoma in children has been reported in association with underlying metabolic disorders like glycogen storage disease types I and III, galactosemia, or familial diabetes mellitus. It also can be associated with androgenic steroid therapy, for example in patients with Fanconi anemia. Furthermore, there are congenital and acquired vascular disorders of the splanchnic/portal venous system, which predispose to liver lesions in general.
