Art in Endoscopy: “Prehistoric cave art”

This image was observed after a macroscopically complete endoscopic mucosal resection of a rectal adenoma. Before resection the submucosa was injected with indigo carmine, resulting in a beautiful blue background with the unaffected red vessels looking remarkably like a prehistoric cave painting.

“Art in Endoscopy” is an initiative of four gastroenterologists in training that aims to display examples of the incidentally beautiful images that are sometimes encountered in regular endoscopic practice.
