Significance

Quaternary ammonium bromide anchored on polyethylene glycol [PEG6000(NBu3Br)2] catalyzed the addition of carbon dioxide to various aziridines to give the corresponding 5-aryl-2-oxazolidine compounds 2 in 45-95% yield with a trace amount of 3 (<8% yield). The catalytic activity of PEG6000(NBu3Br)2 was superior to that of unsupported quaternary ammonium bromides, such as Bu4NBr.
