Significance
A novel method for the site-selective functionalization of indoles is presented in this article. Hereby, Cu(OTf)2 was found to efficiently catalyze the transfer of different aryl groups from diaryliodine(III) reagents to variously substituted indoles. This reaction is suggested to proceed via a reactive Cu(III)-aryl intermediate.
