Significance

The current work represents the first example of catalytic enantioselective addition of arylboronic acids to α-keto esters to provide α-hydroxy esters with good yields and high enan­tiomeric excess. The reaction is conducted in aqueous solution at room temperature or 0 ˚C with 3 mol% rhodium loading.
