Significance

Fortucine is isolated from the fortune variety of narcissus and belongs to the family of lycorine alkaloids. Members of this family possess antiproliferative, antimitotic, insect antifeedant and antiviral properties. The key step in the first total synthesis of (±)-fortucine, involving the construction of galathan framework in G, is based on a concise, regio- and stereoselective radical cascade process initiated by a nitrogen-centered (amidyl) radical derived from F.
