Significance
This report describes the efficient and enantioselective synthesis of chiral β-amino alcohols derived from nitromethane and the diastereoselective synthesis derived from nitroethane. Typically expensive catalysts or silyl nitronates are required to achieve high selectivity. Avoiding these drawbacks the authors demonstrate the utility of their system towards the Henry reaction.
