Summary
With reference to 3 contact lens wearers who were found to be suffering from a severe Pseudomonas infection, the authors call the reader's attention to the risk of infection when fitting contact lenses for cosmetic reasons only. In addition, the various ways in which a contact lens can become contaminated with bacteria between the time it is manufactured and the time it is fitted to the patient's eye are pointed out. Preventive measures are also discussed.
