Platinum-Catalyzed Intramolecular Cycloaddition

Significance

This paper demonstrates the first use of allenes and dienes as three-carbon component in a [4+3] cycloaddition, while providing an efficient route to substituted fused bicyclic cycloheptanes. This methodology provides complete diastereoselectivity while maintaining complete ­regioselectivity. exo-Like or extended transition states explained the stereochemical outcome of the reaction.
