Significance
A novel catalytic grafting method for the functionalization of hydroxyl-terminated solids at room temperature is presented. This provides a means for the functionalization of surfaces of silica and glass-derived materials (amorphous silica gel, SBA-15, MCF-5F, ultrapure spherical balls, microscope slides), as well as other useful solids such as ITO, without having to heat or reflux the material, or having to use very reactive alkoxy- or allylsilanes in the reaction.
