ABSTRACT

The mitochondrial diseases are uncommon multisystem disorders characterized by the presence of functionally and/or structurally abnormal mitochondria. As there have been few reports of the obstetrical care of affected patients, we wish to document two pregnancies in a woman with a Chronic Progressive External Ophthalmo-plegia (Kearns-Sayre-like syndrome). Both pregnancies were complicated by preterm labor and hypertension.
