Significance

A twin-axial pseudorotaxane system (a dynamic complex where the bound and unbound forms of the wheel and the axle are in equilibrium) in which one of the two axles can be moved in and out of the cyclodextrin ‘wheel’ is reported. While it is known that more than one guest can be simultaneously introduced into γ-cyclodextrin, this paper is the first report in which single- and double-axial pseudorotaxanes are chemically interconverted.
