Significance

Described here is a very powerful method for construction of enantioenriched oxa­indolic cyclopentanes which are present in a great number of alkaloids. Under mild conditions, low catalyst loading and using either ligands L1 or L2 both diastereomers (trans-1 and cis-2) can be obtained with good yields and excellent ee values.
