Significance

Reported is a synthesis of di- or tri-substituted furans via condensation-cyclization reactions from readily available bis-silylated diene 1 and acyl chlorides in the presence of AlCl3. The resulting 2,3,5-trisubstituted furans 2 easily undergo desilylation under acidic workup conditions or by the treatment of BF3 etherate to afford 2,5-disubstituted furans 3. The scope of the reaction with respect to the acyl chlorides was not well investigated.
