Significance
The authors have found a useful method for selective iron-catalyzed biaryl coupling. Homocoupling is efficiently suppressed by applying a combination of FeF3 and SiPr×HCl as catalyst system. The fluoride anion hereby plays a crucial role, since replacing FeF3 with FeCl3 proceeds with predominance of the homocoupling reaction.
