Significance
(+)-Microcladallene was isolated from Laurencia microcladia, a red alga. A salient feature of the synthesis is the installation of a secondary bromoalkane function by nucleophilic substitution of a sulfonate ester (E to F) with retention of configuration using a nucleophile-assisting leaving group.
