Significance

Spirolaxine methyl ether shows ­activity against Helicobacter pylori. A noteworthy part of this synthesis is the preparation of ketone D via a Kulinkovich cyclopropanation (for more details on the cyclopropanation, see the review below) and oxidative cleavage of the cyclopropanol intermediate.
