Suchterkrankungen bei Ärzten unterliegen noch heute einer besonderen Tabuisierung und weisen daher häufig einen prolongierten Verlauf auf. Eine Besonderheit in der Suchttherapie bei Ärzten liegt in der Übernahme der Patientenrolle durch die betroffenen Ärzte selbst. Medizinische Sachkompetenz der Ärzte ist nicht gleichbedeutend mit einer Kompetenz im Umgang mit der eigenen Erkrankung, insbesondere einer adäquaten emotionalen Krankheitsakzeptanz. Die Behandlungsangebote der Oberbergkliniken und der Ärztekammer Hamburg berücksichtigen diese Besonderheit und stellen heute ein spezifisches Hilfsangebot für suchtkranke Ärzte dar. Bei gut strukturierten Behandlungskonzepten liegen die Erfolgsraten bei über 80 %.
Addictions in health care professions are today still denied and show there often prolonged courses of the disease, although the treatment results are positive. Differences in the treatment of addicted physicians are mainly in the capability to take over the roll of a patient and to let go of the professional attitude. Medical competence as a doctor does not mean a competent dealing with the own disease, especially concerning the emotional acceptance. The programs offered through the Oberbergkliniken and the Doctors counsil of Hamburg and Baden-Württemberg are specified treatment options for addicted doctors. The outcome rate of specialised treatment programs are over 80 %.
