Significance

The authors report a phosphine-catalyzed intramolecular diastereoselective formal [3+2] cycloaddition for the construction of bicyclo [4.3.0] and [3.3.0] ring systems. A mixture of triphenyl phosphine and Na2CO3 was suitable for the generation of bicyclo[4.3.0] compounds, and the combination of triphenyl phosphine and Cs2CO3 was found to be the best condition for the construction of [3.3.0] ring systems. With 20 mol% of the triphenyl phosphine catalyst, good to excellent yields were obtained for different substrates.
