3-Methyl-1-p-Tolyltriazene: A Novel Methyl Esterification Agent

Significance

A rapid and quantitative ethyl esterification of oligosaccharides with sialic acid residue was achieved with 3-ethyl-1-p-tolyltriazene in solution as well as on solid supports. A sialylated saccharide anchored onto a polymer support was treated with 3-methyl-1-p-tolyltriazene in DMSO-acetonitrile to afford the methyl ester derivative, which was isolated without any chromatographical post-treatments. The solution-phase esterification was also demonstrated.
