Significance

The Ni(II)/1 catalytic system described in this report represents one the most successful examples of asymmetric cycloadditions of cyclopropanes and nitrones. An additional feature of this catalyst is the possibility of efficient kinetic resolution of racemic 2-substituted cyclopropane-1,1-dicarboxylates. Hence, Ni/1 possesses excellent dual reactivity and provides easy access to two classes of synthetically useful compounds.
