Significance

Olefin metathesis is clearly one of the most powerful organic transformations to date. The E-olefin is predominantly formed in this ring-opening/cross-metathesis protocol. High ee values are obtained for a variety of substrates, generating quaternary carbons with high selectivity. Five mol% of the chiral ruthenium complex 1 are used with THF as solvent.
