Significance

Moenomycin A inhibits bacterial cell wall biosynthesis by binding to transglycosylases that mediate the formation of the carbohydrate chains of peptidoglycan. The four glycosylation reactions involving sterically hindered or electronically deactivated donors or acceptors were accomplished using sulfoxide glycosylation.
