Significance

Strychofoline is an oxindole alkaloid isolated from the leaves of Strychnos usambarensis. It inhibits mitosis in a number of cancer cell lines. Lerchner and Carreira use a ring expansion of the spiro[cyclopropane-1,3′-oxindole] E as the plinth for their construction of (±)-strychnofoline.
