Significance
Enynols are useful precursors for the synthesis of various carbon frameworks, like furanes, cyclopentenones, oxetanes and allenes. Thus, a simple way of their preparation is of significant interest. Here, the authors reported a straightforward protocol for the synthesis of 1-en-4-yn-3-ols and 2-en-4-yn-1-ols starting from two acetylenes and one molecule of an aldehyde. Depending on the workup, two different types of products can be obtained. Heterocyclic aldehydes can be successfully used in the reaction.
