Significance

Ligand-free copper fluorapatite (CuFAP) was found to work as a highly efficient and recyclable catalyst for the cross-coupling of bromo- and iodoarenes with NH containing heterocycles. Thus, the new heterogeneous copper catalyst supported on fluorapatite (copper loadings of 1.25 mmol/g) was prepared from calcium fluorapatite [derived from Ca(NO3)2, (NH4)2HPO4, and Ca(NO3)2×4H2O] and a water-containing appropriate amount of Cu(OAc)2. The CuFAP catalyst showed high activity in the cross-coupling reaction of bromo- and iodoarenes with NH containing heterocycles (15 examples, 85-98% yields).
