Significance

Isolated from Clavelina lepidaforma, the perhydropyrrolo[2,1-j]quinolone alkaloid (-)-lepadiformine displays cytotoxic activity and cardiovascular effects. Noteworthy in this synthesis is the use of a substrate-controlled Ireland-Claisen rearrangement to create two new con­tiguous stereocenters.
