Abstract

General practitioners (GP) can take part in avoiding excess or misuse of medical care by the medical care they provide. Acute pain as a reason for encounter is a good example for that: GPs can take their responsibility to avoid a chronification of pain. And low back pain is a good example to show that it is necessary not only to distribute evidence based guideline recommendations among GPs but to educate GPs in managing patients' problems without promoting a chronification of the pain. For this GPs are dependent on informed patients that share their preventing objectives of health care.
