ABSTRACT

Percutaneous treatments are useful in two frequent painful conditions involving the shoulder. In frozen shoulder syndrome (FSS), distension arthrography (DA) and associated intra-articular injection of steroids provide pain relief and some improvement in joint motion in 90% of patients. In pain related to rotator cuff tendon calcification, needle aspiration of calcific deposits is followed by dramatic or significant pain relief in approximately two thirds of patients, and this avoids surgery. The technique of these two procedures is detailed, and their results are discussed.
