Stents have a wide array of clinical uses in maintaining luminal patency for vascular and nonvascular systems, including biliary, gastrointestinal, and tracheobronchial systems. Bare metal stents (BMS) are used in many interventional radiology applications.

Improvements in BMS technology offer different advantages in terms of flexibility, radial force, and adaptability. The aim of this study is to provide a back-to-the-basics overview of BMS while looking at its advantages, limitations, and applications.
