Abstract

According to current fascia research human muscles are linked by collagenous connective tissue. These links seem to have mechanical relevance. However, neither morphologic continuity nor force transmission can be reduced to the effects of myofascial chains. In fact, the human facial system acts as a multidirectional continuum.

Although there is currently only poor evidence for specific therapy modalities, a holistic approach seems to be reasonable which does not restrict the therapy perspective to the area of symptom location.
