Es wird aktuelle kontrovers diskutiert, ob bei Diabetes der teilweise Ersatz von Kohlenhydraten durch Fette günstig ist. Eine europäische Studiengruppe um Marjo J. Campans-Kuijpers untersuchte die Assoziation von Kohlenhydrat- bzw. Fettaufnahme über die Nahrung und Gesamt- und kardiovaskulären Mortalität sowie Gewichtsentwicklung bei Patienten mit Typ-2-Diabetes.
