Future Developments of Data Processing in Health Care^[*]

An analysis is made concerning the development of data processing in medicine and of medical informatics as a genuine methodological discipline. A classification is given for the major application areas: 1) Data analysis, 2) Information logistics and 3) Signal analysis.

The present development is seen to be characterized by a tendency towards »peripheralization« and decomposition of central systems. Out of this development the necessity is formulated for medical informatics to move away from system realization and maintenance to methodological orientation and genuine research work in the field of information analysis, system analysis, decision support, development of general concepts for networks and application systems and quality assessment. New technological activities are expected in the field of imaging and endoprosthetics. The necessity for educational programs is emphasized.

Die Entwicklung der Datenverarbeitung in der Medizin und der medizinischen Informatik als eine genuine methodologische Disziplin wird analysiert. Die Hauptanwendungsgebiete werden klassifiziert in 1) Datenanalyse 2) Informationslogistik und 3) Signalanalyse.

Für die augenblickliche Entwicklung wird als charakteristisch die zunehmende Tendenz zur »Peripheralisierung« und zur Auflösung großer zentraler Systeme beschrieben. Aus dieser Entwicklung heraus wird die Notwendigkeit formuliert, für die medizinische Informatik neue Ansätze zu finden, weniger auf dem Gebiet der Systemrealisierung und Wartung als vielmehr in Richtung auf eine methodologische Orientierung und eigenständige Forschung auf den Gebieten der Informationsanalyse, der Systemanalyse, der Entscheidungsunterstützung, der Entwicklung von allgemeinen Konzepten für Netzwerke und Applikationssysteme sowie auf dem Gebiet der Qualitätssicherung. Neue technologische Aktivitäten werden erwartet auf dem Gebiet der Bildverarbeitung allgemein und der Endoprothetik. Die Notwendigkeit von Ausbildungsprogrammen wird unterstrichen.
