Summary

Juvenile idiopathic arthritis is a common cause for joint swelling in childhood and adolescence. But before diagnosis can be made, many other entities leading to joint swelling have to be considered and ruled out. This case report describes a female adolescent suffering from a primary chondromatosis of the knee. The typical clinical presentation, the necessary diagnostic procedures and the therapeutic options of this rare disease are discussed.
