I would like to thank Dr. Steele for inviting me to participate as a guest editor for this issue of Clinics in Colon and Rectal Surgery. This issue focuses on a variety of topics related to social media. I am very much indebted to the contributing authors, whose expertise continues to amaze me. This issue was only possible because of their knowledge, hard work, and groundbreaking contributions in the field of social media and surgery.

From the articles included in this issue, I hope readers can gain some appreciation about not only what social media is but also how to use it, what some of the pitfalls are, and what the future holds for the technology. I cannot thank the contributing authors enough for delving into some of these complex issues in an evolving field. I hope you enjoy this issue of the journal and learn as much as I have in putting it together.
