Die Gonadektomie ist bei Hündin und Rüde eine sehr kontrovers diskutierte Maßnahme. Sie wird bei Hündinnen noch immer als beste Vorsorge gegen Gebärmutter- und Gesäugeerkrankungen propagiert. Die chirurgische Entfernung der Gonaden ist jedoch nicht immer notwendig. Im folgenden Review wird ein Überblick über die derzeit möglichen Alternativen gegeben.
