Dieser Fortbildungsartikel gibt einen Überblick über die aktuelle Datenlage zum Thema persistierendes Foramen ovale (PFO) und Schlaganfall. Die Schwerpunkte liegen auf dem Zusammenhang zwischen PFO und erstmaligem zerebrovaskulären Ereignis, dem Schlaganfall-Rezidivrisiko und schließlich der Sekundärprophylaxe.
